CapitaLand Investment’s refreshed 2030 sustainability master plan integrates 2050 net zero carbon

Capitaland Investment (CLI) has announced a refresh of its sustainability master plan (SMP) for 2030, placing a focus on the label’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives. With the added ambition of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050, the refreshed plan sets out a higher target for the use of renewable energy by 2030 of 45% and the reduction of waste intensity in operations by 20%.

The plan also amplifies its social targets with a view towards social impact, human capital development and employee wellness. This includes growing female representation in senior management up to 40%. Vinamra Srivastava, CLI’s chief sustainability officer states “we have doubled down on sustainability in the refreshed 2030 SMP, aligning it to our net zero commitment and validating our targets with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).”

To reach their sustainability goals, CLI has deepened efforts to reduce scope 3 emissions by forming partnerships with supply chain vendors, working with tenants to adopt green leases and improve overall sustainability performance. Furthermore, they are striving for innovation, intensifying the use of renewable energy generated onsite and offsite, and expanding network of capital partners for sustainable financing.

Srivastava concludes “we remain steadfast on our sustainability journey and will continue our efforts to achieve our ESG goals.” As at 10.27am, shares in CLI are trading 1 cent lower or 0.3% down at $3.30.

Since the original launch of the SMP in 2020, Capitaland Investment has prioritised its execution to reach ambitious ESG targets. Working with multiple stakeholders on a global scale, the company is striving to make a difference with innovative solutions that are piloted at their properties across the world.

The news comes after the initial introduction of the SMP which was met with warm reception. The 2030 SMP is the latest development in a journey that Capitaland Investment has undertaken to ensure sustainability practices remain at the forefront of their business.
