NParks and URA Partner Singaporeans to Rejuvenate Rail Corridor as Community Space – Former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station to Reopen After 2026
NParks and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) are teaming up to help Singaporeans to rejuvenate the Rail Corridor as a community space. This transformation will involve the reopening of the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, which has been closed for over 20 years.
The Rail Corridor is a 26km stretch of railway tracks, spanning from Woodlands to Tanjong Pagar and is a popular recreational spot for many Singaporeans. It is home to lush greenery, unique flora and fauna, and provides a peaceful respite away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The NParks and URA plan is to transform the Rail Corridor into a vibrant and accessible community space, with the reopening of the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. This will involve the provision of various amenities and activities, such as a walking and cycling trail, picnic areas, and a children’s play area.
The new community space will also provide opportunities for educational and recreational activities, such as guided tours, birdwatching, and other interactive activities. These activities will be designed to create a sense of community, and will be open to everyone, regardless of age or background.
The project will also seek to promote sustainability, with plans to install solar panels and other green technologies to reduce the Rail Corridor’s carbon footprint. Additionally, the project will seek to conserve the natural environment, with plans to preserve the existing flora and fauna, as well as to create new habitats for native wildlife.
The reopening of the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station is expected to take place in 2026, and it is hoped that this transformation of the Rail Corridor will help to create a sense of community and togetherness amongst Singaporeans. It is a unique opportunity to create a safe and accessible space for all, and to celebrate the natural beauty of Singapore.

The NParks and URA plan is a great example of how public and private entities can come together to create a positive impact on the community. The Rail Corridor transformation project is a great opportunity to showcase the unique identity of Singapore and to create a space for people to come together and enjoy the natural environment.
The former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, located in the heart of Singapore, is set to reopen as a community space after 2026 when the rail corridor agreement between Singapore and Malaysia comes to an end. To ensure that the space is used and enjoyed by all Singaporeans, the National Parks Board (NParks) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) have partnered in a project to rejuvenate the railway corridor.
The project includes creating a series of green spaces and walking trails, which will link up with existing parks and green spaces in the area. The aim is to create an urban oasis where people can relax and enjoy the outdoors while still being close to the city. The project also includes the planting of trees and shrubs, and the restoration of existing heritage buildings. This will create a unique landscape that will be both aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable to visit.
Not only will these green spaces and walking trails be a great recreational space for people to enjoy, but they will also serve as a reminder of Singapore’s rich history and its connection to the Malaysian rail network. The former railway station will be transformed into a heritage gallery that will showcase the history of both the station and the railway corridor.
In addition to the green spaces and heritage gallery, the project also includes plans for a community space. This space will feature a variety of amenities such as a playground, fitness equipment, and various recreational activities. This will provide a great place for people of all ages to come together and enjoy the outdoors.
The project is not just about creating a green space and heritage gallery, but also about creating a community space that will bring people together. The idea is to create an environment where people can come together to share experiences and build relationships. This is a great chance for Singaporeans to reconnect with their heritage and to create a sense of community in the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.
NParks and URA are committed to ensuring that the project is a success and that the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station is a place that all Singaporeans can enjoy. The project is expected to be completed by 2026, when the rail corridor agreement between Singapore and Malaysia comes to an end. The hope is that the space will be a space that all Singaporeans can be proud of and enjoy for years to come.
