Wee Cho Yaw retires as chairman and director of Singapore Land Group; Wee Ee Lim to become next chairman

After slightly over three decades of faithful service, Wee Cho Yaw is retiring from his position as chairman and director of Singapore Land Group U06 0.00%. On March 31, he will officially step down and be appointed as chairman emeritus and honorary adviser for the group. This comes after his appointment to the board on June 26, 1992.

In addition to being an esteemed figure within the Singapore Land Group, Wee is also the chairman emeritus The Myst and honorary adviser of United Overseas Bank (UOB). He is also a substantial shareholder of the group.

Upon his retirement, Wee will be succeeded by his son, Wee Ee Lim, who has been a non-executive and non-independent director of the group since May 1999. Not only will he become the next chairman of the company, he is also the president and CEO of Haw Par Corporation since October 2003.

The transition is certainly hitting close to home – with shares in Singapore Land Group closing 2 cents higher or 0.86% up at $2.34 on Feb 24 – an apparent testament to the faith that the public has in Wee and his successor. Without a doubt, Wee Cho Yaw’s legacy will continue to live on in the form of the lasting impact that he has made throughout his career.
